I'm a software engineer on the app team, so my time is spent improving the application. Part of the reason I chose to work at SRM is the engineering culture—we don't focus on frontend or backend as much as we do on features. As an engineer, you own the feature you're working on. Sometimes that means adding an API endpoint or two and a new table in the database. Other times its frontend optimizations and UI changes. Either way, an engineer here is expected to know (or comes to learn, as I did while interning) how to deliver features that add value. That doesn't mean we work in isolation, in fact it's the opposite. The environment is collaborative and discussion and group problem solving is encouraged. And the collaborative nature leads to other benefits—team members who are friends as much as colleagues, team lunches and workout sessions at the office gym. Us here in the Irvine location also take quarterly trips up to the Palo Alto office which is a fun outing in its own way. Plus free coffee every morning, which is never a bad thing!
